The Klettgau Formation is a geological formation in Switzerland. It is Late Triassic in age, covering most of the mid to late Norian, the Carnian, and into the Rhaetian, spanning a period of 26-30 million years.

The new specimen, SMF 09-F2, was found in 2009 in the course of a housing construction project at Frickberg, a hill opposite the famous Plateosaurus-bearing clay pit Gruhalde in the town of Frick, northern Switzerland
