Étymologie Reptile de la montagne noire

Melanorosaurus est un genre fossile de dinosaures sauropodomorphes du clade des anchisauriens, parfois rattaché à la famille des Melanorosauridae dont il est le genre type. Il a vécu au Trias supérieur (Norien-Rhétien), et les restes fossiles de ces herbivores ont été découverts en Afrique du Sud. Une seule espèce, l'espèce type, est connue, Melanorosaurus readi.
