Étymologie Lézard à portubérances (grecque)

Tylosaurus est un genre fossile de grands mosasaures ayant vécu durant le Crétacé supérieur, il y a entre 92 et 66 millions d'années avant notre ère. Les fossiles de ce reptile marin sont trouvés principalement au nord de l’océan Atlantique, notamment en Amérique du Nord, en Europe et en Afrique.

Une espèce géante de Tylosaurus nouvellement nommée a été nommée par les chercheurs.  La nouvelle espèce de Tylosaurus a été érigée sur la base de fossiles trouvés dans le nord du Texas.
