The Triassic ( try-A-sik) is a geologic period and a stratigraphic system that spans 50.5 million years from the end of the Permian Period 251.902 Ma to the beginning of the Jurassic Period 201.4 Ma. The Triassic Period is the first and shortest geologic period of the Mesozoic Era, and the seventh period of the Phanerozoic Eon. The start and the end of the Triassic Period featured major extinction events.

Remarkable Triassic Marine Reptile Fossil Preserves Internal Organs
Scientists have described an exceptional fossil of the long-necked, Triassic marine reptile Austronaga minuta. The specimen comes from China and is around 245 million years old. Remarkably, much of the animal's digestive system has been preserved. The almost complete fossil provides scientists with an unprecedented view of the skeleton and internal anatomy of an archosauromorph.

A forgotten fossil just revealed a new Triassic predator from 210 million years ago
A fossil overlooked for nearly 80 years has revealed a previously unknown crocodile relative that lived 210 million years ago in what is now New Mexico. Named Eosphorosuchus lacrimosa, the jackal-sized predator had a reinforced skull, powerful jaw muscles, and a short snout built for tackling larger prey.
